I remember, as a child of 3 or 4 years of age, crawling on knees in the clean n loose golden sands of the courtyard, (of the old “tharavaad” where I was born), under a “Chaampa” tree, playing hide-n- seek with light and shadows; Like the naughty smile of a naughty friend, I knew by instinct, the Sun shinning up above the tree was the culprit. The golden rays of the Sun falling like a rain through the lush green plants n trees made several brilliant spots of light on the ground in different patterns. As the child crawled along to catch the grass-hoppers n ‘pakkis’, lo! he saw those spots of light suddenly vanishing, replacing with shadows.
For the child, those light n shadows were presence of intelligent living entities, like the grass-hoppers or people moving around there. The lights falling on the ground, the trees n leaves were all part of the little self, the child, unaware of any difference..
Later in life, whenever I recollect such scenes from the distant past, I understood, at least vaguely, that for a child whose mind n brain was still in the formative stage, such “feelings” were part of a larger, all pervading, boundless “Consciousness”
Yes,
“Consciousness” which is beyond Mind and/or Intelligence..
It is pure “Being!”
